Rivian sued by Tesla for stealing secrets

The fight between electric pickup trucks has not even started in practice, but behind the scenes it is on fire. Tesla has filed a lawsuit against Rivian.

In the indictment, Elon Musk’s company claims the rival startup stole trade secrets from the automaker, by enticing employees, who left Fremont carrying data that belongs to the company. Destiny? Rivian.

Apparently, 176 Tesla employees have moved to Rivian. According to the company, at least four are said to have taken confidential information, while they are still suspicious about two others.

In the complaint, filed with the San Jose state court, Tesla claims that the misappropriation of confidential information taken from Tesla to a competitor “is obviously wrong and risky”.

In addition, in the text, Tesla warns: “The person would engage in this behavior only for one important benefit – using it to serve the competitive interests of a new employer”.

On the other hand, Rivian has denied Tesla’s accusation and said it requires its new employees not to introduce intellectual property from its former employees.

Rivian also praised its engineering team with many years of experience in the automotive sector. R.J.Scaringe, PhD in mechanical engineering from MIT, founded Rivian in 2009.

Since then, the company has made progress that was only materialized with the presentation of the future R1T and R1S models, which maintained the standard format for pickup trucks and SUVs, adding interesting technologies, such as rotating 360 degrees on the axle, for example.

Although it has not yet manufactured any vehicles in series, Rivian already accumulates US $ 6 billion in investments, having as partners Amazon, which wants 100,000 electric vans, in addition to Ford.

It will have a Cadillac electric SUV, as well as an electric pickup, which could be a sister to the current F-150. At Tesla, which will make Cybertruck, lawsuits against Zoox and XPeng for the same reason have already been filed. Meanwhile, the Elon Musk brand is also being sued, but by Nikola Motors, due to the design of the Semi.
